Hossein Zare

Graduate Research Assistant
Biography

Hossein Zare is a PhD candidate in the Chemical and Biochemical Engineering program at the University of Iowa, having joined the Nuxoll Research Group in January 2023. His doctoral research focuses on bacterial biofilm dispersion, specifically investigating the mechanisms of dispersion with and without the application of thermal shock. His current work utilizes both bacterial cultures and animal models to study these effects in vivo.

Prior to his doctoral studies, Hossein served as a research assistant focused on the synthesis of carbon quantum dots (CDs) for Cas-9 delivery. He holds an M.Sc. in Bioengineering-Biomaterials and a B.Sc. in Materials Engineering, both from the Iran University of Science and Technology (IUST). His master’s thesis involved enhancing the mechanical properties of glass-ceramic dental composites.

Beyond his research, Hossein has significant experience in scientific communication and education. To date, he has co-authored 10 peer-reviewed journal articles with over 1240 citations, reflecting his expertise in nanoparticles and drug/gene delivery systems.
